The 'Drive Time' Option

Another method of creating a report list is by using the 'Drive Time' option. This is an additional function activated when you purchase the full mapping capability.

This is accessed from the 'Report' tab on the navigation bar.

The Drive Time option allows the creation of catchments made up of all postcode sectors reached from a specific postcode sector either in a given time or travelling a specific distance along the road network.

The ‘Starting postcode sector’ box is where the start of the drive time is set. Here, you input the postcode sector you want to drive from. A postcode sector is the first part of a full postcode plus the number from the second half of it (for example if the full postcode YO23 2UE, the postcode sector is YO23 2, or if the full postcode is E1 1AB, the postcode sector is E1 1).

NB: If you input the full postcode the drive catchment will not be created.

Driving for a specified time

Choose to drive for a number of minutes or specified distance by inputting a number in the relevant ‘Drive for' box.

Choose to drive either ‘Off-Peak speeds’ or ‘Rush-Hour speeds’. The catchment created will vary in size depending on which speeds you choose. Less sectors will be reached using the rush hour speeds.

Driving a specified distance

Choose to drive for a specified number of miles or kilometres by inputting the number in the relevant ‘Drive for’ box followed by choosing miles or kilometres in the drop down menu. This is less realistic than a drive time as sectors are included that are beyond a reasonable time scale when physically driven. This is, however, useful when no drive time has been specified or actual time is not an issue.

Input a name for your drive time / distance catchment in the ‘Save the list of postcode sectors under this description’ box. This will identify the user list for future reference and creating reports without having to re-run the drive time. A good way to name this is the sector driven from and the time / distance used.

Click on the ‘Generate my drive time’ button to create your catchment / user list.

Once the drive time is successfully completed the screen will show the message below:

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please remember to name your drive time otherwise you will create multiple user lists called the default ‘My Drivetime’ with only a date / time to identify the user list.
