Sometimes with PowerPoint presentations you will want to show lots of detail and information although the final image may often be hard to read and can confuse the client rather than helping them. In the past this would have meant creating multiple maps with different combinations of catchments to get your message across. With PowerPoint 2007 however, this is made easier by the introduction of the show / hide feature. This allows you to create one master map of all your catchments and export from the JICREG system, this saving both time and effort and also removing the need to decide on exactly which combinations to use. Once imported to PowerPoint you then have all the levels of information available all at the same time. Because of this you can mix and match as you see fit and provide the clearest message to your client or team. Please note that the slide show image the client will see honours the choice of data removed and will not suddenly make all the layers reappear. In the example below we can see a very cluttered map for a single view, yet all of the data is relevant to our drivetime. With the Selection Pane active you can see the various objects making up the map. This allows you to accurately choose the right objects to show or hide. Initially we may only wish to show the Radio stations with our drivetime and remove the Newspapers. This is simply done by clicking the eye symbol next to the relevant object within the Selection Pane. Before you amend the map though remember to copy and paste a duplicate of the slide. This will allow you to keep producing multiple variations of the same downloaded map, without having to undo the work carried out. This obviously leaves an issue with the key for the map you are now showing. This is simply resolved by turning off both the key text and box for the unwanted catchments. To keep this looking as neat as possible you can also ungroup the key until you can manually change the size of the catchmentkey object. You can then drag the white box to match the remaining key boxes. What we can now do with the second slide is reverse the process of the first slide to show only the Newspapers. This follows the exact same process except that the background will need moving down rather than up to match the visible objects. Once complete the overall key will be too far down the page, simply regroup the object and drag the key as a whole to the top corner of the slide. This methodology can be used to create many different mixes of data and offers an alternate to animating slides to bring in items one at a time. You can instead create multiple slides and go from one to another as required. Return to PowerPoint 2007 Help... Return to Contents page... |
